Write In Candidate – City Council Lexington’s 8th District (40517/40515)
City Council Matt Evans Candidate Introduction:
Hello, Lexington! I’m Matt Evans, your neighbor on Bold Bidder Drive and a proud write-in candidate for City Council in District 8. Beyond my campaign, I want to share a bit more about who I am when I’m not on the campaign trail. I’m engaged to be married by the end of the year and am a true family man at heart, living with seven rescued animals. I have faced many trials since moving to Lexington, and live paycheck to paycheck like many people in our district. I want to help every voice be heard in our wonderful Community!
My Roots
A Journey from Springfield to Lexington
My story begins in Springfield, Ohio, just outside of Dayton, where I grew up as a die-hard Bengals fan, thanks to a childhood wrapped in the excitement of NFL game days with my uncle and cousin. Raised by a single teenage mom, life threw us challenges, but it also taught me the values of resilience and hard work. My stepdad, who joined our family when I was 10, instilled in me a passion for excellence. I began working in construction with him at the age of 12.
Overcoming Adversity
Learning the Hard Way
Life continued to throw many challenges my way as it does to so many of us. During my freshman year of high school, within a few months, my stepdad suffered a work accident, breaking both his feet, my sister endured a severe car accident, and my grandmother faced repeated hospitalizations. Amid these personal crises, I faced severe bullying, leading me to drop out. After a year of homeschooling, I returned to the classroom, graduating a year ahead of my peers. This period honed my determination to overcome obstacles and laid the groundwork for my future.
Career Path
From Varied Experiences to KDE
My career journey is diverse, marked by rapid promotions and a broad spectrum of roles, reflecting my adaptability and drive. Despite various jobs, my passion for making a meaningful impact remained unfulfilled until joining the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE). Working with KDE ignited a stronger desire to serve our community, leading me to run for City Council. Although administrative hurdles made me a write-in candidate, I’m more determined than ever to advocate for every resident of our district.
My Commitment to District 8
Dedicated to Lexington’s Future
Lexington is not just where I live; it’s my home – a community I’m deeply committed to improving. My life’s journey, from overcoming personal and family challenges to professional growth and community service, has prepared me to serve District 8 with dedication. I believe in hard work, resilience, and the power of community to create a brighter future for Lexington. As we look towards the Election this November, I am ready to bring these values to City Council, fighting for the needs and aspirations of all our residents.
Let’s connect, Lexington! I know we can achieve great things together. Join me in making District 8, and all of Lexington, a place we’re proud to call home.
